Command & Conquer Generals / Zero Hour Will NOT Launch (Start)

So it seems I ran into an issue, which I attempted to resolve with every possible solution (driver updates, re-installations, etc). The splash screen would appear and either it would crash to the desktop, or it would simply time out and the process would not respond. The cause? Turned out to be that I was missing a much needed options.ini file that the game required to launch. If you have a similar problem, try the following:

1. Open Notepad
2. Paste in the following data

AntiAliasing =
DrawScrollAnchor =
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = false
MoveScrollAnchor =
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 800 600
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
ScrollFactor = 50
SendDelay = no
StaticGameLOD = Low
UseAlternateMouse = no
VoiceVolume = 70

3. Click on File > Save As
4. In the drop down menu, select 'All Files'
5. Name the file options.ini
6. Save the file to your My Documents folder (or Documents folder in Vista/7)
7. Go into your My Documents folder (or Documents folder in Vista/7) and create a folder
8. Name this folder Command And Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data
9. Move the options.ini file into that folder

At that point, the game should launch. If not, do a google search for Command And Conquer Generals Zero Hour Options.ini and go from there

Command & Conquer The First Decade 1.03 Patch (Unofficial)

This patch fixes a multitude of issues with the series, including adding in the much needed proticol support for LAN play within the older games (Tiberian Sun and RA1). This way, the IPX proticol is not needed for Vista and Windows 7. It also appears to add in a few NoCD patches. Not sure on the legality of the patch, but give it a shot anyways. Does its job.

Ready Driver Plus

This is a must have for anyone running in a Windows 64-bit envoirnment. I can confirm that it not only works in Vista 64-bit, but also in Windows 7 64-bit. It basically automates a user manually selecting the 'Disable Driver Signature Verification' entry in the boot menu (that you would normally access by pressing F8 at startup). Great thing about this utility is that it saves you time and will work with multiboot menus, though you will have to specify how many up arrow keys are needed to select the Windows OS entry.

In fear that this utility may disappear, we have uploaded it directly to our servers. Feel free to download and mirror.
